MAKE Announces a Major Modernization Project with P2 Energy Solutions Alberta ULC

July 9, 2008

Vancouver, BC, Canada July 9, 2008 (PRWEB) – MAKE Technologies is pleased to announce a major modernization contract with P2 Energy Solutions Alberta (formerly Qbyte), a subsidiary of P2 Energy Solutions Inc. Under the terms of the contract, MAKE will assist P2 Energy Solutions Alberta to modernize and develop a new production accounting application that enables users to be more productive and effective. The new product will fuse MAKE’s legacy modernization technology and design capability with the proven and comprehensive business logic contained in the Qbyte PRISM production accounting application.

Peter Huggard, president, P2 Energy Solutions Alberta comments, “Access to MAKE’s usability specialists and advanced software libraries are invaluable in creating a truly rewarding user experience. Our new product will include features such as dynamic navigation, heuristic search, graphical workflow and property and process visualization to ensure the new application is efficient and easy to use.”

“We are thrilled with this contract with P2 Energy Solutions Alberta,” says Bill Bergen, president and CEO of MAKE Technologies. “Through earlier collaboration, we were able to demonstrate the power of our Transformational Legacy Modernization (TLM) technology in the context of their Qbyte PRISM product. Further to this, we completed an initial contract to extract, inventory and classify the business logic contained in Qbyte PRISM.”

“We are now moving to the visual design and usability phase,” Bergen adds, “which includes such things as simplicity, user forgiveness and feedback and alignment with the user’s mental model. This project once again demonstrates TLM’s proven modernization effectiveness– whether for independent software vendors or for one-off mission-critical systems.”

Mr. Huggard continues, “The timing of this project is perfect to take full advantage of the significant advances offered by Web 2.0. Qbyte PRISM already enjoys widespread acceptance in the marketplace. In order to build upon this market leadership, we are focusing our efforts on creating the most rewarding user experience imaginable to ensure users get more out of their day.”

MAKE Technologies launches the MAKEFaces Open Source Web Application Framework

June 18, 2008

Vancouver, BC – June 18, 2008 – MAKE Technologies today announces the MAKEFaces Project, an Open Source web framework for Java Enterprise Edition (Java EE) application development.

MAKEFaces improves and extends Java Server Faces (JSF) and Java Persistence API (JPA), improving the ease of JSF application development through incorporation of principles such as DRY (Don’t Repeat Yourself) and fixing recognized shortcomings.

“With the release of MAKEFaces as open-source, MAKE Technologies has opened up a mature web application framework that solves a variety of tough JSF problems faced by many business application developers,” says David Green, Principal Tools Architect at MAKE, and MAKEFaces co-Project Owner and Developer.

“MAKEFaces can be used on its own or in conjunction with other popular web application frameworks,” Green continues. “MAKEFaces favors simplicity and convention over complexity and configuration, keeping the bar to entry low and positioning MAKEFaces as an attractive solution.”
The MAKEFaces project is made up of three components, which may be used independently:

Validation – a validation framework that may be used with or without JSF;
Select Item – components that enable domain-driven selection list factories;
Core – a core application framework that supports annotation-driven configuration, dependency injection, conversations, RESTful url’s and many more features.

MAKE announces appointment of Wendy van Donkelaar to Chief Financial Officer position

April 30, 2008

Vancouver, BC –– MAKE Technologies Inc., an industry leader in SOA modernization, is pleased to announce the appointment of Wendy van Donkelaar to the position of Chief Financial Officer (CFO) for the company, effective May 1, 2008.

Wendy brings over 20 years technology industry experience to MAKE after serving as Vice-President, Finance and Operations with Apparent Networks and Director, Professional Services for Crystal Decisions in Vancouver prior to its acquisition by Business Objects.

While at Crystal, Wendy led the North America Professional Services Group, serving many Fortune 500 clients such as Aetna, Citibank, Bank of America and Pepsi. During this time Crystal grew from a 110-person start-up selling developer tools to the fastest growing enterprise software company in the world with more than 1,600 employees and USD$300 million in revenue.

Wendy earned her CA designation with Ernst & Young and holds a Business Degree from Simon Fraser University, British Columbia.

Why Modernize?

In a widespread effort to grow productivity and effectiveness, organizations today are examining options to modernize existing application portfolios into systems based on the service-oriented architecture (SOA) standard. In particular, the mission-critical “legacy” systems that were created a decade or more ago were never intended to run core operations in the context of a strongly web-enabled infrastructure; these system therefore represent a significant, growing liability.
